INTERPRETATION OF DEGRADED PRESSURE BOUNDARY REPAIR BY ENCAPSULATION |
| Pottstown, PA, March 18, 2005 |
PMC Engineering Inc.
announces that NBIC responded to PMC’s request for clarification
on the acceptance of the encapsulation repair technology for repair of
local thin areas. NBIC has issued Interpretation 04-01 to clarify
that repair of degraded pressure boundary by encapsulation in lieu of
weld metal build up or flush patch is acceptable.
“We are pleased that the NBIC has now officially sanctioned our
approach for a permanent repair that previously limited the industry to
costly flush patches or weld overlay” said Paul Manzon, President
of PMC. "With this clarification, the NBIC has documented that
PMC’s approach to repairing pressure retaining items by
encapsulation is acceptable. We look forward to supporting industry
needs to restore equipment to code compliance with this innovative
repair technology.”
The patented PMCap Repair Method provides the only Code approved
pressure boundary repair that is accomplished on the outer surface
without cutting and replacing degraded wall. This approach
results in completing repairs and restoring equipment to service in
record time, at minimal cost without compromising safety.
